100 year Anniversary of the Deutsche Oper Berlin

On October 20 will take place a gala concert to commemorate the hundred anniversary of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Lopez Cobos ,who worked there from 1972 until 1990 first as resident conductor and from 1981 as generalmusikdirektor, will take part in this gala beside Alberto Zedda and Donald Runnicles.

Santander

August 6 and 7 Lopez Cobos conducts the Orquesta Sinfonica de Madrid in the final concert of the international piano competition of Santander on the 6th and one concert on the 7th with works by Turina Guridi and Cesar Franck.

Caracas

Jesus López Cobos has been invited for the second time to conduct the Orquesta Sinfonica Simon Bolivar in Caracas. The concert will take place on June 16. On the program works by Chabrier Debussy and Ravel.

Upcoming Symphony Recital in Madrid

Jesús López Cobos will conduct a symphony recital in Madrid on June 16, 2011 with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid at the Auditorio Nacional de Música.  The recital will feature the symphony n° 8 in b minor by Franz Schubert as well as the symphony n° 9 in d minor by Anton Bruckner.  The work by Schubert and Sinfonía nº 9 by Bruckner are both incomplete, but show what amazing work these romantic composers produced following the monumental works of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.

European Premiere of Il Postino in Vienna

Jesús López Cobos recently conducted the European premiere of Il Postino at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, Austria.  Written by Mexican-born composer, Daniel Catán, this opera is set in recent times and is said to have considerable crowd appeal.  Regarding the performance by Jesús López Cobos, the New York Times said, "Drawing fine playing from the Vienna Symphony, the conductor Jesús López Cobos ensures that Mr. Catán's melodies sing and that his transparent orchestral textures are neatly balanced."
