Upcoming Symphony Recital in Madrid

25 May 2011

Jesús López Cobos will conduct a symphony recital in Madrid on June 16, 2011 with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid at the Auditorio Nacional de Música. The recital will feature the symphony n° 8 in b minor by Franz Schubert as well as the symphony n° 9 in d minor by Anton Bruckner. The work by Schubert and Sinfonía nº 9 by Bruckner are both incomplete, but show what amazing work these romantic composers produced following the monumental works of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.

Quotes

"Yet with sensitive interpreters, which this performance, conducted with beautiful restraint by Jesús López-Cobos, certainly had, Thaïs emerges as an opera with passages of great elegance and subtlety. Massenet’s melodic gift is in full furl.”

— The New York Times

"Dem Orchester unter der Leitung von Jesus Lopez Cobos gelang es, das Wechselspiel von tragischen und komischen Elementen der Offenbachschen Musik pointiert zu Gehör zu bringen."
